To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the CMA Awards in 2016, some of the biggest country music stars across the generations have come together to film Forever Country.
Cleverly mixing a medley of John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads, Dolly Parton‘s I Will Always Love You and the Willie Nelson classic On the Road Again, the tribute highlights stars like Little Big Town, Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Kasey Musgrave, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, and Alabama. Directed by grammy award winner Joseph Kahn the video was shot over 3 days with over thirty guest spots on a green screen set. Even Randy Travis makes an appearance, though did not sing due to still recovering from his stroke in 2013.
Shane McAnally, who helped produced the song, explained at a press event and preview screening of the video on Monday (Sept. 19), he wanted Paisley, a West Virginia native, to open the song with Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and to showcase Underwood for the big moment in Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.” Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were placed in a similar spot during their filming, while the Lambert and Bryan duet happened accidentally. As a result, it was decided to place them beside each other in the video.
